1. Diarrhea is shown when fluid intake or fluid produced in your gastrointestinal tract, is not taken up properly.The intestines take in too much water from food during the process of digestion. Because that food move so fast, and the intestines will not be able to absorb water, this results in loose stools (diarrhea).

 

2. Diarrhea is very common and usually not serious. Many people will have diarrhea once or twice each year. It typically lasts arround two days and can be treated with over the counter (OTC) medicines.

 

3. The most common cause of diarrhea it is a virus that infects the gut. That infection usually lasts for two days and is something called like "intestinal flu" or "stomach flu." Diarrhea may also be caused by:

 

  • Infection by bacteria (the cause of most types of food poisoning)

  • Infections by other organisms

  • Eating foods that upset the digestive system

  • Allergies to certain foods

  • Medications

  • Radiation therapy

  • Diseases of the intestines (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)

  • Laxative abuse (can be find in some gums)

  • Alcohol abuse

  • Digestive tract surgery

  • Diabetes
